His name is Abdullah bin Qais bin Salim, who is known by Abu Musa Al-Ash’ri. Allah (SWT) blessed him with a beautiful voice. He was one of the best companions to read the holy Qur’an. The prophet (PBUH) said about him, “Abu Musa’s voice is like that of Dawud.” One day, the prophet (PBUH) passed by Abu Musa with Lady Aisha, while he was reading the holy Qur’an and listened. After he finished, the prophet (PBUH) told him the above mentioned Hadith. Abu Musa said, “If I know that you (referring to the prophet (PBUH)) are listening, I would have recited the Qur’an more beautiful. Omar ibnul Khattab used to ask Abu Musa to recite for him the holy Qur’an saying, “Make us feel the verses of Allah (SWT).” Abu Musa came to Makkah before Islam, and was famous for trading and good dealings. After Islam, the prophet (PBUH) called him for Islam and he converted to Islam quickly, saying the Shahada. The prophet (PBUH) asked Abu Musa to go back to Bani Ash’r to spread Islam and teach them its rules. Abu Musa went to his nation and asked them to be Muslims. Many have listened to him. He took them to Al-Habasha. Their number exceeded 50 men, including his two brothers Abu Ruhum and Abu Amer, and his mother Thabia bin Wahb, in addition to some women and boys. After the prophet (PBUH) went to Madinah, Muslims travelled from Al Habasha to Madinah. Abu Musa and his family were among those immigrants. The prophet (PBUH) said to his companions, “Tomorrow you will meet a nation whose hearts are more connected to Islam than you.” Bani Ash’r arrived and when they became near the Madinah, they said, “Tomorrow we will meet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions. When Abu Musa and his nation entered Madina, the prophet (PBUH) said, “You were awarded for immigrating for Al-Habasha and for Madina. Allah (SWT) said what can be translated as, “Allah will eventually come up with a people He loves and who love Him. (Al Maidah 57)” The prophet (PBUH) said, “Allah (SWT) refers to your nation, Abu Musa.” The prophet (PBUH) used him in Zabaid and Addan. Abu Musa participated in many battles with the prophet (PBUH), as he was known as “the master of all knights.” The prophet (PBUH) prayed for him saying, “Oh Allah (SWT), forgive Abdullah bin Qais for his sins and let him enter paradise.” One day, the prophet (PBUH) was standing at the mosque’s door with Buraida’s servant, they saw Abu Musa praying submissively. The prophet (PBUH) said, “Oh Buraida, is he a hypocrite?” Buraida said, “Allah (SWT) and his prophet (PBUH) know better.” The prophet (PBUH) said, “He is a true believer and his voice is like that of Dawud.” Buraida went to see who is that man, and found that he is Abu Musa. The prophet (PBUH) used to take Bani Ash’r as a model for being co-operative saying, “if Bani Ash’r became poor during the battles, or their food in Madinha became less, they gather all what they have in one cloth and share it together. They are my family, and I am one of them.” Abu Musa spent his whole life with the prophet (PBUH). After the prophet (PBUH) died, Abu Musa participated in the war on apostasy under the leadership of Abu Bakr As-Sediq (RA). Abu Musa was a humble man. It was narrated that Omar ibnul Khattab has made him the leader of Al Basra. When Abu Musa arrived there, he told its people, “Emir of believers has sent me to you to teach you the holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, and to clean the roads. The people were surprised how the Emir will clean the roads? Abu Musa was also a great scholar in Islamic jurisprudence. Ali ibn Abu-Taleb (RA) said about Abu Musa, “he was dyed with science.” Abu Musa participated in invading al-Basrain for Allah’s (SWT) reward. He opened Al-Ahwaz, Al-Raha, Sumaisat and others. He was also the emir of Al-Basra under the leadership of Othman ibn Affan. Then, Kufa people asked the Emir to make Abu Musa their leader. Othman accepted and sent him to Kufa, and he stayed their till Othman was martyred. Then, Ali ibn Abu Teleb was appointed Emir of believers. Abu Musa then returned to Makkah, spending his time in worshipping Allah (SWT) and praying, till he died in the 42nd year after Hijra.
